People often worry about how to wash lingerie because these items are usually made from delicate fabrics and intricate details. Plus, lingerie can be quite expensive. Let’s not ruin your evening with a damaged negligee. Read below for the best tips on washing and caring for lingerie.

Lingerie is delicate, but caring for it is easier than you think! Always check the garment’s care label before washing for specific instructions. Many items can only be hand washed or washed in cold water, so read this before tossing your underwear in with the rest of the laundry. - How to Wash Bras

Let’s first address a controversial topic: how often should you wash your bras? Most experts agree that bras should be washed after every 3-4 wears. A general rule is never to wear the same bra two days in a row, as the elastic needs time to recover. Rotate several bras and give each bra at least 24 hours to rest before wearing it again. With proper rotation, bras can be worn multiple times between washes. We strongly recommend hand washing your bras to preserve their shape, elasticity, and lifespan. - How to Hand Wash Bras

Fill a clean sink or basin with cold water at room temperature. Add 1-2 pumps of Ultra Concentrated Detergent to the water. If the bra is made of silk or another natural material, we recommend using our Ultra Concentrated Sensitive Skin Detergent. It’s enzyme-free and gentle on delicate fabrics. Soak the bra in the soapy water for a few minutes, then gently rub the soap through the fabric. Be careful not to pull or wring the fabric! Rinse with cold water. Roll the bra in a towel and then press firmly to remove excess water. Lay the bra flat to dry.

- How to Wash Underwear

Most of us wash our underwear with the rest of our clothes, but those special pieces might need extra care. If the panties are particularly sheer or decorated, hand wash them following the instructions above. If they are regular nylon or silk panties, machine wash them with a mild detergent, such as our sensitive skin detergent. Use warm water and a cold rinse for the best cleaning!

- How to Wash Other Delicate Items

Now you know all about washing lingerie, but what about other delicate items like bathrobes and stockings? All legwear, such as stockings, tights, and pantyhose, should be hand washed. Add a mild detergent to a clean sink or basin with cold water and soak the legwear for at least 30 minutes. Rinse them with cold water after washing. Wrap the items in a towel after rinsing to absorb excess moisture, then hang them to dry. Items like bathrobes and nightgowns can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with similar items. Never overload the washing machine or laundry bag if you use one, as this can lead to poor cleaning and excessive wrinkles in the fabric. Give items enough room to move! It’s also wise not to wash lingerie with lint-producing fabrics like terry cloth or fleece.
