Washing your lingerie and underwear can be tricky. This is where delicate fibers come into play: lace, satin, silk - you name it. People often worry about how to wash lingerie because these items are often made from delicate fabrics and intricate details. In addition, lingerie can be quite expensive. Let’s not ruin your evening with a damaged negligée. Read below for the best tips on washing and caring for lingerie.

- Washing Lingerie

Although lingerie is delicate, caring for it is easier than you think! Always check the garment’s care label for specific instructions before washing. Many garments can only be hand-washed or washed in cold water, so read this before throwing your underwear in with the rest of the laundry. - How to Wash Bras

Let’s first address a controversial topic: how often should you wash your bras? Most experts agree that bras should be washed after every 3-4 wears. A general rule is that you should never wear the same bra two days in a row, because elastic needs time to recover. Rotate a few bras and give each bra at least 24 hours to recover before wearing it again. With the right rotation, bras can be worn several times between washes. We strongly recommend hand-washing your bras to preserve their shape, elasticity, and lifespan. Underwire bras should absolutely be hand-washed, as the underwires can break if they are twisted too much. See below for step-by-step instructions on hand-washing lingerie.

- How to Hand-Wash Bras

Fill a clean sink or basin with cold to room-temperature water. Add 1-2 pumps of Ultra Concentrated Detergent to the water. If the bra is made of silk or another natural material, we recommend using our Ultra Concentrated Sensitive Skin Detergent. It is enzyme-free and gentle on delicate fabrics. Soak the bra in the soapy water for a few minutes, then gently work the suds through the fabric. Be careful not to pull or wring the fabric! Rinse with cold water. Roll the bra in a towel, then press it firmly to remove excess water. Lay the bra flat to dry.

- How to Wash Underwear

Most of us wash our underwear together with the rest of our clothes, but those special pieces may need some extra care. If the panties are particularly sheer or embellished, hand-wash them according to the instructions above. If they are regular nylon or silk panties, wash them in the machine with a mild detergent, such as our sensitive skin detergent. Use warm water and a cold rinse for the best cleaning!

- How to Wash Other Delicate Items

Now you know all about washing lingerie, but what about those other delicate items, such as bathrobes and hosiery? All hosiery, such as stockings, tights, and pantyhose, should be hand-washed. Add a mild detergent to a clean sink or basin filled with cold water and soak the hosiery for at least 30 minutes. Rinse it with cold water after washing. After rinsing, wrap the items in a towel to absorb excess moisture, then hang them to dry. Items such as bathrobes and nightgowns can be machine-washed on a delicate cycle with similar items. Never overload the washing machine or laundry bag if you use one, as this can lead to poor cleaning and excessive creasing in the fabric. Give the items enough room to move! It is also wise not to wash lingerie with lint-producing fabrics such as terry cloth or fleece.
